The Vaal Dam Catchment covers an area of approximately 52,000 square kilometers. It stretches from Heilbron in the west to Ermelo in the east, and from the Vaal Dam in the north to Bethlehem and Harrismith in the south.
The Upper Vaal Reference Group and the Vaal Barrage Catchment Executive Committee (VBCEC) are no longer operational as those management functions provided intially by these two structures will now be expected to fall under the auspices of the Vaal-Orange Catchment Management Agency (CMA).
